NSS Unit No. 59 at Rajagiri College of Social Sciences is a dynamic platform where over 200 student volunteers come together to make a meaningful difference in the community through a range of impactful initiatives. Rooted in values of service and social responsibility, the unit undertakes projects that address critical needs, including the Snehaveedu housing initiative for underprivileged families, regular blood donation drives, and environmental conservation efforts like tree planting and beach clean-ups. The unit’s community outreach also encompasses health and hygiene awareness programs, the adoption of SHJ UP School in Eloor—where volunteers support student development through organic farming, resources, and mental health support via the “ഒപ്പം” program—and emergency relief campaigns in collaboration with organizations like GOONJ to aid disaster-affected regions. NSS Unit No. 59 also engages in palliative care services for the elderly, visits to local old age homes, and skill development workshops, contributing to a more resilient and empowered society. Rajagiri holds the legacy of running the ETI (Empanelled Training Institute) for training the Programme officers of the state from 1974 to 2020.
The unit's dedication and impact have been recognized through numerous awards, including the Best NSS Unit Award from MG University in multiple years and the Sahachari Award from the Social Justice Department. Volunteers from the unit have represented Rajagiri at esteemed national events, including the Republic Day Camp and Independence Day celebrations in New Delhi, demonstrating the commitment and leadership fostered within the NSS community. Through these achievements and ongoing efforts, NSS Unit No. 59 upholds a legacy of excellence in community service and personal growth, serving as a beacon of social engagement at Rajagiri College of Social Sciences.
