Prof. Alphonsa Vijaya Joseph is Director, Department of Biosciences, Rajagiri College of Social Sciences (Autonomous), Kalamassery. She was Principal of St. Teresa's College (Autonomous), Ernakulam from 2022 to 2025, and also served as Professor and Head of the Department of Botany. Her career combines institutional leadership, postgraduate and undergraduate teaching, research in microbial genetics and taxonomy of Basidiomycetes, academic governance, quality assurance, extension, consultancy, and professional engagement in higher education. She obtained her Ph.D. from the Department of Biotechnology, Cochin University of Science and Technology, M.Phil. from the Department of Botany, University of Calicut, and postgraduation from St. Joseph's College, Devagiri. She is a botanist and biotechnology researcher with over 30 years of teaching and research experience in higher education. Her areas of academic and research engagement include Mycology, Microbial Genetics, Biotechnology, taxonomy of Basidiomycetes, marine microbial pathogens, mushroom biology and cultivation. Her research work includes the discovery of seven new species of mushrooms from the Western Ghats of Kerala, gene sequence submissions to GenBank, and work in microbial studies and applied biotechnology
