Dr. A. Vinothkanna is an interdisciplinary researcher specializing in microbial biotechnology, food bioscience, natural products, and bioengineering, with a strong focus on translating traditional knowledge into modern therapeutic and industrial applications. He obtained his Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Bharathidasan University, India (2019), where he investigated the probiotic potential of indigenous microbial communities from Ayurvedic fermented formulations, establishing a foundation for functional microbiome bioprospecting. He has gained extensive international research experience through postdoctoral appointments at School of Food and Biological Engineering, Jiangsu University, China (2019–2022), and School of Life and Health Sciences, Hainan University, China (2023–2025). His research integrates food science and biotechnology, focusing on probiotics from traditional fermented medicines, foods, and beverages, and the development of functional foods and nutraceuticals using probiotic consortia through fermentation and foodomics approaches. His work also examines the effects of fermented food products on gut health and metabolic disorders. Dr. Vinothkanna’s research focuses on the extraction and functional characterization of probiotic-derived bioactive compounds and postbiotics, including exopolysaccharides, peptides, and enzymes, for applications in food and health. He develops strategies to combat multidrug-resistant pathogens through quorum sensing inhibition and antibiofilm mechanisms, and designs Nano formulations for efficient bioactive delivery. His recent work integrates shotgun metagenomics, zebrafish models, and multi-scale analyses to study host–microbe interactions, biocompatibility, anti-inflammatory effects, in vivo wound healing, and toxicity mitigation. His research program combines experimental microbiology, advanced analytical techniques, and computational biology, including molecular docking, network pharmacology, and in silico modelling to understand bioactive compounds and microbial interactions. He has published 37 peer-reviewed research, review articles and 2 book chapters in reputed international journals (cumulative impact factor: 162.3; h-index up to 17) and has deposited 34 microbial strains in NCBI. He is a recipient of prestigious fellowships, including Chinese Government Postdoctoral Fellowships (2019 and 2023), the Foreign Young Talents Program (2020), China and national fellowships from the University Grants Commission, India. He actively contributes to the academic community as a reviewer for leading international journals and has served as a Guest Editor for Frontiers in Pharmacology. With over a decade of research experience, Dr. Vinothkanna’s work contributes to advancements in fermentation, functional foods, gut health, antimicrobial strategies, and sustainable biotechnological innovations.
