Workshop & Conferences

The Power BI Dashboard Training, led by Ms. Swarna Babu, offered a thorough exploration of Power BI’s capabilities and applications. The morning session began with an overview of Power BI's uses and benefits, focusing on its ability to integrate data from various sources and generate interactive reports. This was followed by a hands-on demonstration of working with datasets in Power BI, where participants learned to modify datasets. In the afternoon, the training shifted to visualization methods. Participants were shown how to apply different visualization techniques to various types of data to enhance understanding and presentation. They then completed a practical exercise in which they created their own dashboards using a provided dataset, applying the skills they had learned. Support and guidance were provided throughout this exercise to ensure effective use of Power BI's features.

The Advanced Excel workshop took place on July 27th, led by Mr. Abin John, Assistant Professor in the Department of Statistics at St. Thomas College, Kozhancherry. The session began with Excel fundamentals, covering topics such as sorting, text-to-columns, data validation, conditional formatting, and list building, before progressing to advanced concepts like macros. Participants received hands-on experience, which sparked interest in exploring new areas of study.

On Dec 22nd,23rd,27th a 3-Day national online workshop on topic on Advanced machine learning techniques conducted by dept. of statistics, Rajagiri college of Social Sciences and Little Flower Degree& PG college, Uppal. The Department of Statistics of Rajagiri College of Social Sciences organized an M-power Persona Enhancement program on 7th and 8th of November 2022 for the 1st year PG students of the department. It was held at GLC hall and was a two-day programme. The aim of the program was to frame the students to develop their soft skills that will be very helpful for them in their life for attending various interviews and jobs. The session was handled by Mr Krishnakumar, founder director vertical eye and Mrs Mridula Kumar, Director vertical eye.

Through these, students gain many skills. They learned about time management, the importance of smart work and setting a goal and so on. The students were divided into different groups and were asked to suggest names, logos and taglines for their respective groups. This was done to develop their creativity, uniqueness and competitive mind. After that we had another management activity of tapping a ball. Then they were told to share their learnings in group wise in a way that a group had a scribe and two spoke persons. After that, a mime competition was conducted and each group was given different topics. This was targeted to improve their self-confidence and creative minds. With this, day 1 activities came to an end. Then they had assigned some works to be done by night and for the second day too which includes video analysis and interpretation, badge making, learning dairy.

The second day begins by sharing the experience of the previous day. A lot of management activities were conducted on this day too. They had a quiz based on the video analysis and interpretation. The students had a group discussion within each group, preceded with a mock group discussion, where different topics were assigned to each group. This has improved their communication skills, thoughts, self-confidence, which will be very helpful for appearing for interviews, placements.
