Parents Meeting 2025

A Parents-Teachers Meeting for first-year students at Alex Hall was conducted on 18th January. The meeting began with a warm welcome by the Head of the Department, Dr.Dais George, followed by speeches from teachers discussing students' academic progress, discipline, and extracurricular involvement. Dr.Sowbhagya S Prabhu presented key department initiatives and future plans. Parents actively participated, sharing positive feedback and valuable suggestions for improvement. The session concluded with one-on-one meetings between parents and teachers, offering personalized discussions on students’ progress, fostering collaboration and enhancing the academic experience

Industrial Visit

An Industrial visit to G10X Technology PVT LTD, Kakkanad on 20.11.2024, provided the students with insights into the company’s innovative business strategies, operational processes, and technology-driven solutions. G10X, a digital services company, focuses on creating sustainable platforms, leveraging technologies like Large Language Models (LLMs), Generative AI, and Mobile Data Science to optimize efficiency and creativity. Key sessions included presentations by G10X experts on services, ChatBot development, and mobile data science applications. Program Manager Gopakumar R.C. emphasized the company’s mission of customer-centric execution, ethical values, and employee empowerment while offering career tips during an interactive session. The visit concluded with a token of appreciation from Ms. Archana Jayaram and Mr. Varun Jose, leaving participants inspired to apply these learnings to their future endeavours.

INTERNSHIP REPORT

The internship program, an add-on course organized by the Department of Statistics at RCSS, provided students with a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience in their field of study. Over the course of two months from November 16th to January 16th, students engaged in various activities aimed at enhancing their statistical skills and applying theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios. During the internship period, students were involved in a range of activities including data collection, analysis, and interpretation. The internship program was closely monitored and evaluated by the department's faculty members through direct interactions and online meetings. At the culmination of the internship program, students presented their internship reports on January 30th and 31st. Following the presentations, students were required to submit a soft copy of their internship report by February 7th.

The internship program conducted by the Department of Statistics at RCSS provided students with a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience and apply theoretical knowledge in a real-world setting. Through hands-on projects, workshops, and seminars, students developed essential skills and competencies that will serve them well in their future careers.

Farewell Ceremony for MSc Statistics with Data Science ,2024–2026

The Department of Statistics organized a farewell ceremony on 06/01/2026 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at Chavara Hall in honour of the outgoing students of M.Sc. Statistics with Data Science (2024–2026 batch). The event was conducted in a warm, dignified, and memorable manner, celebrating the academic journey, achievements, and shared experiences of the graduating students. The programme reflected the strong bond between faculty and students and provided an opportunity to reminisce about the milestones, learning experiences, and moments of togetherness that marked their postgraduate journey.

IPL Auction – Rajagiri Conclave 2025

On September 23, 2025, the Department of Statistics, Rajagiri College of Social Sciences, organized the event “IPL Auction” as part of Rajagiri Conclave 2025 at the Rajagiri School of Management. The event aimed to provide students with an engaging platform to apply analytical thinking, strategic reasoning, and statistical concepts in a competitive environment. conducted in two rounds. The event was hosted by alumni Ms. Litty Adens and Mr. Jovin, whose lively presentation added energy to the programme. After intense competition  team from Rajagiri College of Social Sciences secured the first prize of ₹5000, while  team from Rajagiri College of Management and Applied Sciences won the second prize of ₹3000.

Industrial visit-2025

The MSc Statistics with Data Science (2024–26) students of Rajagiri College of Social Sciences visited TNP India, Kakkanad, on 30th June 2025 as part of an educational company visit. The session began with a warm welcome by Ms. Veena Nair (HR, TNP), who expressed her delight in hosting the department and acknowledged the presence of faculty members Mr. Dev Anand and Mr. Antony Jenoy. She emphasized the significance of such interactions in connecting academic learning with industry exposure and set a positive tone for the day.

Oyster 2025: Homecoming Day

The Department of Statistics organized Oyster 2025: Homecoming Day on 15 August 2025 at Alex Hall, RCSS, at 11 AM, under the coordination of Unnimaya L.A. The event marked a memorable reunion of alumni with their alma mater and witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 15 alumni. The programme commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. Dais George, Head of the Department, followed by greetings from Prof. Dev Anand and Dr. Sowbhagya S. Prabhu, which set a nostalgic and cordial tone for the gathering. The alumni shared heartfelt reflections on their journey at Rajagiri, expressing how the Department of Statistics shaped their academic foundation while fostering personal growth and instilling values that contributed significantly to their professional and personal success.

KARGIL VIJAY DIVAS-2025

The Department of Statistics organized events to celebrate Kargil Vijay Diwas, beginning with a series of competitions on July 16th, 2025, and culminating in an official celebration on July 30th, 2025. As part of the observance, the department conducted a Digital Poster Making Competition, Elocution Competition and Face Painting Competition.

Skill Sharing Session

The Skill Sharing Session on SAS Programming was organized on 07-02-2026 from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm at the Digital Library with the objective of providing students with both theoretical understanding and practical exposure to SAS programming. The programme focused on strengthening students’ ability to handle real datasets, perform data manipulation, and apply statistical tools effectively using SAS. Emphasizing core programming concepts and data step operations, the session enhanced students’ confidence in using SAS for academic research and professional applications. The initiative also encouraged peer learning, as the sessions were led by fellow students who had developed strong expertise in SAS, thereby creating an interactive and collaborative learning environment. The speakers were  Fasmi Fathima, Mariya M. D., Abin Sunil, Thomas J. Vazhakala, and Anugraha Jhonson, M.Sc. students of  Nirmala College, Muvattupuzha.

Digital Literacy and Awareness Programme for Facility Support Staff

The Department of Statistics, Rajagiri College of Social Sciences (Autonomous), Kalamassery,organized a Digital Awareness Programme for the Facility Support Staff on 12/01/2026 at Chavara Hall, Rajagiri College of Social Sciences, Kalamassery. The programme aimed at equipping the facility support staff with basic digital knowledge and introducing them to useful online services that can make their daily lives easier and more efficient. The programme focused on digital literacy,financial awareness and the responsible use of online platforms.

SIR Data Entry

A two-day SIR Data Entry Session was successfully conducted on 30/11/2025, Sunday atcollectorate, Ernakulam and 03/12/2025, Wednesday at Rajagiri College of Social Sciences, Kalamassery as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise initiated by the Election Commission of India (ECI).The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is a nationwide exercise undertaken by the Election Commission of India to ensure that the Electoral Roll (ER) is accurate, up-to-date, and inclusive. The objective of SIR is to include all eligible Indian citizens in the electoral rolls while ensuring that no ineligible voters are included. The nation wide SIR process was announced on 27 October 2025 by the Chief Election Commissioner, Shri Gyanesh Kumar,from Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

HAPPINESS HOUR

As part of the Mental Health Week celebrations (6th–10th October 2025), the Department of Statistics, Rajagiri College of Social Sciences organized “Happiness Hour” on 6th October 2025 from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm in the 2nd year M.Sc. Statistics classroom. The event aimed to promote mental well-being, relaxation, and togetherness among students through fun and interactive activities.The session was hosted by Ms. Irene, first-year M.Sc. Statistics student, under the guidance of Dr. Sowbhagya S. Prabhu. Students were divided into groups and engaged in games such as Heads Up, Dumb Charades, Guess the Movie, and Pictionary, which encouraged teamwork, creativity, and enjoyment.

Outreach Program

The M.Sc. Statistics with Data Science (2024–2026) students of Rajagiri College of Social Sciences, Kalamassery conducted an outreach session titled “Introduction to AI Tools” at GVHSS Kalamassery on December 3, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM for higher secondary students. The session was facilitated by Sreesanth C, Aiswarya A, and Merin Rose, who introduced participants to various artificial intelligence tools that can support students in different aspects of their academic and personal lives. The objective of the session was to create awareness about the practical use of AI tools and how they can enhance productivity, learning, creativity, and well-being. During the session, several tools were demonstrated across domains such as academics, to improve study efficiency and research skills; mental health, to promote emotional well-being and stress management; and arts and entertainment, to encourage creativity and engagement. The interactive session helped students gain a basic understanding of emerging AI technologies and their potential applications in everyday life, making the program both informative and engaging.

The Department of Statistics with Data Science at Rajagiri College of Social Sciences organized a heartwarming outreach program on 19th July 2025 at St. Joseph’s Boys Home, Koonammavu, Ernakulam. The event aimed to foster compassion, social responsibility, and community engagement among students while bringing joy and motivation to the young residents of the boys’ home.
The event was gracefully anchored by Devika Vinod, a second-year student from the department. Students from both the first and second year actively participated in planning and conducting a variety of fun games and engaging activities for the children. Their enthusiasm and energy lit up the day as they interacted and played alongside the boys, creating cherished memories

Alumni Interactions

ED club inauguration and Alumni talk
As part of the Department of Statistics’ initiatives, an alumni talk along with the inauguration of the Entrepreneurship Development (ED) Club was organized on 07.08.2024 at 9:00 AM in Carmel Hall. The programme aimed to celebrate the achievements of alumni while offering students valuable insights into entrepreneurial journeys and the practical application of statistics in real-world scenarios. The event witnessed active participation from 27 students and 5 faculty members, making it an engaging and motivating session that encouraged entrepreneurial thinking among students.
 
A talk on “Clinical Discovery Process” was conducted on 23rd June 2025 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the MSc Statistics second-year classroom at Rajagiri College of Social Sciences. The session was led by Ms. Thameesa, Assistant Statistical Programmer at ICON plc and alumna of the 2022–24 MSc Statistics with Data Science batch. The session was attended by both first- and second-year students.

An alumni meet was held on 24th June 2025 at 2:30 PM in the Second Year MSc Statistics Classroom as part of the Department of Statistics' initiatives to connect current students with recent graduates. The event was attended by 24 students from both first and second years. The program was coordinated and opened with a warm welcome by Dr. Sowbhagya, Professor in the Department of Statistics. The session featured two distinguished alumni from the 2023–25 batch—Mr. Muhammed Irfan, Operations Head at LitLab Learning Pvt. Ltd., and Ms. Mirsha Fathima, a Data Analyst. Both speakers shared their personal journeys from student life to professional success, emphasizing key themes such as adaptability, lifelong learning, and applying academic knowledge in real-world settings. Their motivational talks offered practical advice on overcoming early career challenges and inspired the newly joined students to pursue their goals with confidence and clarity.
  
On 06 October 2025, the Department of Statistics organized a series of interaction sessions for M.Sc. Statistics with Data Science students. The sessions featured three distinguished alumnae: Ms. Elizabath Salmiya K S (Ph.D. Scholar, VIT), Ms. Aliya Hashim (Data Analyst, Safe Line Group, Dubai), and Ms. Fathima Riyas (Freelance Data Analyst).

Statistics Classroom, coordinated by Faculty Coordinator Unnimaya L.A. The session featured two distinguished alumni, Ms. Litty Adens and Mr. Joewin B. Varghese, founders of Infocrita, with the objective of connecting current students with successful alumni and enabling them to learn from their academic and professional journeys. 3 Day Workshop on Population Dynamics (For NET Aspirants)

The Department of Statistics at Rajagiri College of Social Sciences organized a three-day workshop on Population Dynamics for NET aspirants from January 3rd to 6th, 2025. Led by Ms. Anju N. B., Assistant Professor at St. Teresa’s College, the workshop aimed to enhance students' preparedness for the NET examination. Day 1 covered foundational concepts in population studies, focusing on India’s 2011 Census data. Day 2 explored factors influencing population growth and decline, including migration and socio-economic conditions. On Day 3, theories on fertility, family size, and migration were discussed, emphasizing socio-economic factors and data collection in understanding demographic changes. The workshop was informative and engaging, benefiting students and faculty alike.

Introduction To AI Tools

First year MSc Statistics students conducted a peer-led session at GVHSS Kalamassery, on 03.12.2024 introducing higher secondary students to AI tools from various domains. The session aimed to enhance students' academic journey and personal development by showcasing tools in academics, mental health, and arts & entertainment. Facilitators provided hands-on demonstrations, helping students understand the practical applications of AI in enhancing productivity, supporting emotional well-being, and fostering creativity. The session received positive feedback, with students finding the tools insightful and immediately applicable in their daily lives.

MS Excel Peer Learning Session

A peer-led MS Excel training session was organized by second-year MSc Statistics students at Rajagiri College of Social Sciences for the Sahrudaya batch at the Rajagiri Centre for Skill Developmenton 02.11.2024. The session aimed to equip participants with foundational Excel skills for data analysis. It included an introduction to Excel's applications, followed by hands-on training on core functions such as calculations, pivot tables, and charts. The interactive format allowed students to practice their skills in real-time, fostering a collaborative learning environment and enhancing their understanding of Excel for data management.

The session on Value-Based Education led by Dr. Achamma Alex was a deeply engaging and enlightening experience for the students and faculty of Rajagiri College of Social Sciences. She began by encouraging students to identify their passions and set realistic goals, emphasizing that passion-driven work leads to less stress and greater fulfilment. Dr. Achamma stressed the importance of perseverance, consistency, and learning from failures, highlighting that small steps toward goals build resilience. She further explored how values such as self-reliance, responsibility, and accountability are vital for success in any field, while also touching upon family’s role in shaping an individual’s values. The session drew special attention to maintaining a positive mind set, focusing on the present, and cultivating gratitude, tolerance, cooperation, and respect to create a peaceful and harmonious society.

A session on AI tools conducted by Dr. B Elango provided valuable insights into the role of artificial intelligence in academic research. The program commenced with a warm welcome and introductory speech by Dr. Dais George, Head of the Department of Statistics.  Dr. Elango explained how AI is increasingly shaping various fields, particularly in terms of simplifying complex tasks, improving efficiency, and enabling deeper insights into data. He then proceeded to demonstrate several AI tools that are designed to assist researchers in different stages of their work. One of the tools he highlighted was Perplexity, an AI search engine that helps users find relevant information and answers quickly. He also introduced Deep AI, which provides various AI services like image generation and natural language processing, and SciSpace, a tool that simplifies understanding research papers by summarizing and explaining difficult content.

On August 16, 2023, a comprehensive soft skill training program titled “FINE TUNING”

was conducted at Alex Hall. Mr. Baby Joseph, Assistant Librarian (Retd.), Mahatma Gandhi

was the keynote speaker. The program aimed at enhancing the personal and professional development of participants through a series of interactive and insightful sessions. The training was structured into four key sessions: Goal Setting, Soft Skills, Monitoring System for Life, and Emotional Management.

The Independence Day celebrations organized by the Department of Statistics were a resounding success, showcasing the students' talents, creativity, and patriotism. The competitions held on the 9th of August, including the quiz, face painting, and debate, not only provided a platform for intellectual and artistic expression but also fostered a spirit of healthy competition among participants from various departments. The official celebration on the 14th of August brought the entire department together, culminating in a heartfelt and vibrant commemoration of India's independence. The event was a true reflection of unity, enthusiasm, and respect for the nation's history, making it a memorable occasion for all involved.

The alumni talk of Department of Statistics in 2024 was held successfully on June 19. The session commenced with a welcome address by Asif Navaz, followed by an engaging class on Time Series Analysis conducted by Vyshnavi K T, a distinguished alumna who currently serves as a Probationary Officer (Junior Management Grade 1) at Federal Bank. Vyshnavi shared her expertise and experiences, enhancing the participants' understanding of the subject matter. It fostered a sense of community and provided an opportunity for attendees to learn from industry experts like Vyshnavi K T. The event concluded on a positive note with expressions of appreciation from Ann Rose George.
